The Big Black Cat is a whimsical and quirky story of a cat that eats and eats and eats and eats so much that his family flees their home in self-preservation. With no food left in the house the cat sets out but is met with unfriendly reactions when he scavenges for more food. The cat is about to give up hope when he discovers a burger shop that looks as forlorn as he feels. Inside, the cat discovers a burger shop owner who is also feeling weighed down by his troubles. Together they put a plan in place to help each other out and the result is a smashing success! The sad burger shop turns into a jolly burger shop with the help of the cat at the grill, smashing burgers and serving customers. The cat also has to learn self control--and a little math--because the deal is to set aside one out of every 10 burgers for his meal when the cat is on his break.

Sae Kimura is a Toronto based artist and illustrator, born and raised in Japan. Papers, paints and pencil crayons are very good friends of hers and she loves to tell stories with art. Her illustrations grace the pages of Jane and the Blue Willow Princess, Dragon's Dilemma, and Twelve in a Race. The Big Black Cat is her debut picture book as an author-illustrator. Once, Sae lived with a big black cat who loved to eat and eat and eat and eat.
